New Dark Age or Renaissance?

The BRICS Option: The Only Sure Way Out of World War III

Conference Program

This Invitation in PDF format

Dear Friend of the Schiller Institute,

Two systems are presently before the world. The first promises chaos, economic poverty, slavery and war; the second promises harmony, economic prosperity, freedom and peace. The first is that of London and Wall Street; the second is that now proposed by the BRICS nations--Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The only sure way to stop the present, accelerating mudslide into global war, including thermonuclear war, is for the United States to join the BRICS process.

Today's BRICS economic alternative echoes the anti-imperial economic policy that Alexander Hamilton established in the George Washington Administration by 1791: humanity comes before debt. Society's wealth must be concentrated in creative, productive physical work, and withdrawn from speculation. If Hamilton were alive today, he would insist that the citizens of the United States rekindle the spirit of 1776, rise up against the bankrupt policies of London, Wall Street, and Washington, and take back their government by joining the BRICS.

Vladimir Putin, in his recent announcement that Russia has now officially ratified its participation in the $100 billion BRICS New Development Bank, pointed out that this new institution will soon be one of the largest in the world. Non-BRICS nations, such as Greece, can and should join the BRICS even now. Greece, for example, despite threats and pressure from the defenders of the bankrupt Eurozone, is choosing to reject self-cannibalization, preferring to defend its dignity and survive. Were Greece to join the BRICS, as the U.S. should, that would be a strategic action of the highest significance to mankind.

Helga Zepp-LaRouche, founder and head of the Schiller Institute, said on January 30th: "If the USA went back to its original economic system, it could cooperate very well with the new credit institutions of the BRICS nations, such as the New Development Bank, and the AIIB (Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank). Then the United States could return to the foreign policy of John Quincy Adams, and that is exactly the foreign policy concept of Xi Jinping, with his win-win approach to building the new Silk Road -- or Narendra Modi or Vladimir Putin. Everything will depend on our ability to put the alternative of a new paradigm of collaboration on the agenda in time. Mankind has reached a branching point: either we can define our common interest from the standpoint of the future, or we may not exist." The Schiller Institute is circulating a petition ( "The U.S. and Europe Must Have the Courage to Reject Geopolitics and Collaborate with the BRICS") that millions of Americans should sign as a "declaration of independence" from Wall Street, for economic development, and in defense of their "lives, fortunes, and sacred honor," all of which are about to be lost.

How do we return to Hamilton's original, Constitutional American system? We first tell the truth. Wall Street is bankrupt, not only morally, but financially. The $1.7 quadrillion gambling debt ($1700 trillion and counting) can never be paid. The 1933-99 Glass-Steagall Act of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt must be restored, and guilty bankers must go to jail, and be held accountable under the law for the criminal policies that Glass-Steagall had previously prevented.

A United States that restored its 1933-99 Glass-Steagall Act, could then take the next step and use its Constitutional power to issue national credit for urgent physical internal improvements and crash programs at the frontiers of science. Credit restricted to the production of real physical wealth, and to the fostering of scientific breakthroughs such as the Kennedy-era Apollo Program, would provide, as Alexander Hamilton stated, " that the creation of debt should always be accompanied with (its) means of extinguishment. This he regards as the true secret for rendering public credit immortal." (Report on Public Credit, 1790)

Credit can thus be greatly increased without adding to inflation -- the exact opposite of what Wall Street presently does. This "win-win" credit policy is the basis for a new American anti-imperial foreign policy, ending the era of geopolitics, and replacing it with just relations among sovereign nation-states based on the General Welfare clause of the U.S. Constitution. By exploring and discovering jointly with other nations the secrets of the physical universe, especially through space exploration, including the "Strategic Defense of Earth" against incoming asteroids, the U.S. would find a "harmony of interests" with China and Russia that would render war obsolete. The BRICS option, in short, is the only sure way out of extinction, or a civilizational Dark Age.

It requires true vision to move the United States to join the BRICS -- especially in the face of the demonization of Russia, China, and about two-thirds of the human race as "strategic enemies" of the United States. Months ago, China, on behalf of the BRICS nations, officially invited the United States to join. They were met with stony silence. Therefore, the American citizen will have to make the BRICS policy their passion. It can become policy, because it must become policy. As Joan of Arc (1412-1431) was able, at 17 years of age, to acquire the power from a "doomed-to-fail" French nobility to unify her country and defeat its enemies, armed with nothing but a true vision of the future; as the 18-year-old Alexander Hamilton was able to become the senior military aide to General George Washington and later the first Treasury Secretary of the United States he helped create; so we, the citizens of the United States, should change today's United States, returning it to its earlier, true revolutionary mission. Hamilton's America established what the BRICS nations now want, and what Schiller Institute economist Lyndon LaRouche calls the only human economics -- that which, based on the recognition that man is not a beast, demands that the prosperity of our posterity -- the future--determine the true value of our economic actions today.

If we of the United States display the courage to change our wrong axioms, the people of the world will respond. Joan of Arc's courage in the face of her arranged capture, rigged trial and wrongful execution, inspired the response known as the European Renaissance, or "rebirth." The world today, engulfed in social and religious strife, economic injustice and innumerable "small" wars, on the verge of erupting into total civilizational breakdown and thermonuclear world war, urgently requires a new Renaissance, a true "dialogue of civilization" modelled on the Hamilton inspired-BRICS "win-win" paradigm for all nations. Now, today, the human race stands both in need and in sight of just such a revolution, that we might begin the era of true adult humanity, unencumbered by the adolescent blood-sport of senseless military conflict.

The United States must have the courage to walk away from the false god of Wall Street fake money, and join the BRICS, before miscalculation, or madness, "lets loose the dogs of thermonuclear war."
